The Environmental Center of the Township of East Hanover is located at 8 Melanie Lane. It has certain scheduled times throughout the year for disposal of grass, leaves, and brush. The center is open on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. and Saturday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. Notice is provided to residents with regard to the Environmental Center and disposal regulations on a timely basis. For further information regarding disposal of residential items, please call 428-3063 between 7:00 A.M. – 3:30 P.M. on weekdays only.

There are Township pick ups of bottles, aluminum cans, plastic bottles, cardboard, brown paper bags, magazines, junk mail, and newspapers will be picked up every other Thursday.

1999 RECYCLING SCHEDULE

Recyclables will still be prepared in the same manner and picked up every other Thursday for all residents in the township.  As a reminder, residents must set-out recyclables the night before the day of the collection. Collection will begin at 6:30 A.M.  All Containers must have recycling decals.

Types of Materials Recycled and Methods of Recycling

Recyclable Type	Recyclable Description	Recycling Method
	Commingled Recyclables: aluminum, tin cans and containers, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles coded 1 and 2 only. No ceramics, glassware, or window glass.	Rinse bottles and jars. Remove and throw away caps and lids. Place in sturdy 30 gallon container. Curbside pickup on the above dates or at the recycling center on Wednesday and Saturday.
	Newspaper, including the glossy inserts: only those that come with the paper.	Bundle and tie. Keep separate from all other paper. Curbside pickup on the above dates or at the recycling center on Wednesday and Saturday.
	All other mixed: includes magazines, junk mail, envelopes, slick paper and books with hard covers removed. Do not include phone books or carbon paper.	Place in a reusable container with recycling decal. Curbside pickup on the above dates or at the recycling center Wednesday and Saturday.
	Corrugated Cardboard used for shipping and brown paper bags.	Must be flattened and tied no larger than 3 ft. x 3 ft. Curbside pickup on the above dates or at the recycling center Wednesday and Saturday.
Paint Cans	Empty, dry, and open paint cans from both latex and oil based paints. No liquid may remain in the can. Steel lid must be removed.	Empty and dry cans may be placed in commingled container. Curbside pickup on the above dates or at the recycling center Wednesday and Saturday.
Aerosol cans	Aerosol cans must be empty. Plastic caps must be removed. If aerosol containers malfunction and cannot be emptied, place in trash, or if it contains hazardous materials, call Morris County Household Hazardous Waste (973) 829-8006	Empty aerosol cans may be placed in commingled container. Curbside pickup on the above dates or at the recycling center Wednesday and Saturday.
Branches and Brush	Branches and brush must be no larger than four feet long and five inches in diameter.	Branches and brush may be put at the curb. Call the Department of Public Works for appointment (973) 428-3063 or bring them to the recycling center on Wednesday or Saturday.
Grass	Grass: Cut it and leave it. Grass Facts: *Grass clippings provide natural fertilizer for a growing lawn. *You probably will only have to mow one or two extra times per month to clip the top inch off your grass. *The time saved by not bagging can amount to 30-35% of total mowing time. *Grass clippings do not cause thatch; this problem is caused by the accumulation of dead roots and stems.	Grass may be brought to the recycling center on Wednesday or Saturday. No curbside pickup for grass.
Leaves	Leaves may not be placed at the curb without being in plastic bags.	Leaves will be picked up at the curb in plastic bags through December 1999 only. The recycling center will open six days a week in November for residents to bring leaves.
Vehicle Batteries	-	Vehicle batteries are accepted at the recycling center on Wednesday and Saturday. No curbside pickup for batteries.
Motor Oil	Put in clean container that you can empty in the township waste oil tank. Do not mix with any other substance.	Motor oil is accepted at the recycling center on Wednesday and Saturday. No curbside pickup for motor oil.
Tires	Passenger tires off the rim only. No truck tires will be accepted.	Passenger tires are accepted at the recycling center on Wednesday and Saturday. No curbside pickup for tires.
Household Hazardous Waste	The Morris County MUA Household Hazardous Waste Facility is open to residents for disposal of household hazardous waste items. By appointment only, call (973) 829-8006 for dates and additional information.	Acceptable items: *pesticides and herbicides *oil-based paints, stains, and varnishes *automotive fluids *batteries *pool and darkroom chemicals *small quantities of asbestos *driveway sealant *roofing tar *propane cylinders *fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts

For your convenience, the Environmental Center will be open Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
