Recreation
East Hanover Recreation offers enjoyable programs for residents of all ages. The Recreation Commission, whose members are appointed by the township Council, set the policies for the programs, activities and facilities administered and operated by the staff of the Recreation Department. The main recreation facility is Lurker Park, which is also the headquarters of the Recreation Department.
Located on Fifth Street off of Eagle Rock Avenue, award winning Lurker Park encompasses more than 85 acres of the recreation complex. The complex has a brand new recreation center, The Thomas Rinaldi Center, as well as several lighted playfields, tennis courts, toddler and teen equipment, a picnic grove, basketball courts, bocci courts, and an ice skating facility, which depends on weather conditions. The Municipal Swimming Pool is part of the recreation complex with its entrance on Fourth Street off of Eagle Rock Avenue. A network of nature trails are also in the process of development to provide recreation in walking or jogging for fitness and for the enjoyment of nature.
Youth league sports are very popular in East Hanover. There are many opportunities for young people to participate in baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, football, and cheerleading. There are also opportunities for adults to participate in competitive sports.
